Lockout Padlock Metal — 38mm with steel shackle
A LOTO padlock with a steel shackle, instead of the usual aluminium, brass or nylon padlock, is useful in situations where mechanical robustness and durability matter more than weight or insulation. The main cases:
Heavy industrial and outdoor environments
Where a padlock must withstand impacts, vibrations, falling objects or rough use — think of heavy machine building, the steel industry, mining, construction sites and shipping. Steel is stronger and more resistant to forcing than aluminium.
High risk of sabotage or tampering
A hardened steel shackle is considerably harder to cut or break open. In environments where unauthorised persons might want to remove a padlock, steel offers more resistance.
Extreme temperatures
Steel (often chrome- or nickel-plated) withstands high temperatures better than thermoplastic padlocks, which can deform. Handy near ovens, foundries, boiler houses and the like.
Long-term or permanent lockouts
For isolation points that remain locked for a long time or are outdoors, a hardened/rust-resistant steel padlock is more durable.

Frequently asked questions about this product
Is this padlock also safe for electrical work?
Yes. The shackle — the part that comes into contact with the switch — is insulated, so there is no electrically conductive path between the installation and the lock body. For maximum non-conductive safety, a fully nylon padlock remains the first choice, but this metal padlock meets the requirements for electrical lockout.
What is the difference from the nylon padlock?
Metal is physically more robust and better able to withstand rough industrial conditions, impact/shock, and outdoor use. Nylon is fully non-conductive (not just the shackle) and lighter. For switch cabinets and standard electrical work, nylon is sufficient; for heavy industry, mechanical installations or places where the padlock could be physically attacked, choose metal.
Which colours are available?
