Electrical Lockout: Working Safely on Installations

Electrical lockout is the procedure for fully de-energising and locking out electrical installations during maintenance, repair or inspection. The goal is simple: to prevent an installation from unexpectedly becoming live again while work is being carried out. In the Netherlands this is mandatory under the Arbowet (Dutch OSH legislation) and the NEN 3140 standard for working on low-voltage installations.

When do you apply electrical lockout?

Every time a technician, electrician or maintenance worker carries out work on an installation in which energy can be released — think of switchgear cabinets, motors, frequency drives, solar panels or industrial machines. Lockout tagout (LOTO) ensures that the main switch or circuit breaker is physically locked out and no one can accidentally switch the power back on.

Our electrical lockout products

On this page you will find everything you need for a complete lockout procedure on electrical installations:

  • LOTO safety padlocks in nylon and metal — insulated, with unique keys per technician
  • Lockout devices for circuit breakers (MCB lockout) — for locking out a specific breaker without switching off the rest of the cabinet
  • Lockout hasps — for situations in which several technicians work on the same installation at the same time
  • Cable lockout systems — for valves and non-standard switches
  • Warning tags ('Do Not Operate') — mandatory to indicate that the installation is out of service

Compliant with Dutch and international standards

All our products comply with NEN 3140 and the OSHA 1910.147 standard. For B2B customers we deliver on invoice and offer project pricing on request.
